the process of traveling though my life as a quilter

Oh my Gosh!!!

Just hit a preview of the post I just did & I think that button did work! Maybe not how ( or where) it should be. But, the link is there! That is so exciting to me! Now, to go accomplish more . 🙂

Adding buttons, content, the new season

First, the button-

So, did that work? Not sure, don’t think so, don’t know how to even tell……

One of my favorite ( blogs to follow) Quilting Jetgirl is going to share a { quilt along} starting in July that looks/ sounds wonderful. I’m planning to participate & would love to ( link up; share; and show the button— what the heck is the button anyway?) I copied & posted the ” stuff” in the box that said ( button code) but, it doesn’t look the same here & I don’t think it does anything…..is it supposed to do something? Probably….
Moving on.

I have been sewing– although not as much as I would like has been accomplished. I have a quilt loaded on the long arm, almost to the 1/2 way point quilting it. It was going well, had me excited to see it to completion; then I had to stop to go to work; then I got sick — to the tune of hospital admission– then I came home. ( I swear, feeling worse than when I went in) . Then back to work…. It all started On May 1st, here we are May 30 th. Work tonight & tomorrow night, more doctor appointments Wednesday & Thursday….UGH!

I go to work & friends/ coworkers say….I thought you would bring in that quilt….. I will….if I ever get it off the quilt frame.

I’ve managed little bits of hand sewing, still on block 10 of my Millifiore; managed to completely stitch one block of my newest wool hand appliqué, almost done with the second block.

Did some mending , And, completed my two May  swap projects ( a tote bag and a mugrug). I’m up early– maybe I will get some sewing done today before needing to nap before working all night….

I have ( quilty and sewing) friends who never sew At All in the summertime. Once the weather gets nice that’s it….. I sew a lot ( normally) in the perceived ( off season) . In the past spring/ summer was when I had a chance to catch up on My projects — fall/ winter more time was spent on ( customer) projects. The past year or so I haven’t drummed up much business. Not getting to sewing group, or guild meetings. Just not ( out there). I hope to Change that this year. Finally settling into a consistent work schedule that isn’t so disruptive helps.

I’ve been working on photographic projects more lately. ( having my first Great grand child is incentive– he’s so very cute!)

Happy, healthy baby boy and my ever so beautiful first granddaughter all grown up & a mommy!

We are planning to have 5 generation pictures taken ( soon). My getting sick set that back.      😔
So, things to work on……

Figure out that ( button thing) before the quilt along in July.

Finish quilting that quilt on the frame.

Finish piecing the top of an appliqué test pattern quilt ( should be done today)

Clean, declutter, spring clean, clean the garage— was our plan when I landed in the hospital.

Get 5 generation photos taken

Put together a new quilting portfolio, get back into the ( business) of quilting.

All needs to be done – yesterday- so, they aren’t in any particular order- just need to accomplish & mark off what I can, as I can .

I hope everyone is enjoying decent weather, is safe where ever you are, and remembering what this weekend is all about — Remembering!

Thanks for stopping by

Next post I hope to be sharing ( Quilty) pictures.

Always learning.

Boy, I know it’s been awhile. Bought a new iPad & for some reason couldn’t ( until now) access my blog. It’s been crazy.

anyway-

working A Lot for this past month– things are straightening out  on that front.

Spring had finally ( hopefully) sprung. A few nice days and the snow is gone from the yards. There are still some patches in the woods, but it’s nice out.

Sewing/ quilting I’ve been accomplishing some things. Making a good dent in my fabric shelves. Working hard on the { fabric moratorium} this year. Only ( so far) having to purchase backings for a couple quilts.

Ive been helping a friend / co worker learn to sew which has been fun. Putting together project kits & seeing her enthusiasm and excitement with each new accomplishment has been great. So far she has learned to make pillow cases, aprons, baskets, totes; she’s working on a patchwork quilt and has a ( skill builder) blocks by hand project. We are going to work more on using patterns & a project with a zipper is next. 🌞

I am just finishing a quilt that is a ( test pattern) for a new designer– can’t share pictures until the pattern publishes in the magazine– the ‘ body’ of the quilt top is finished, 840 (4″) triangles! Have the borders cut, hopefully get them on tomorrow. It was a challenge for me to make a totally ” scrappy” quilt, the best thing is I managed to do it all from scraps! That made a nice dent!

While I was constructing the triangles I found < leaders & Enders> Were helpful so, as I was cutting triangles out of scraps I also cut 3″ squares. Really helped dent the scrap tote.  For those I decided to join the squares to all white on white fabrics to ( try) to give it some continuity, so the whites were ( mostly) not scraps. I use whites, don’t really know why I don’t have white scraps….hmmm will ponder that.  So, now I have hundreds of 2patches sewn together for another scrap quilt. Going to start playing with that.

I had a customer bring over a new quilt top to get quilted, beautiful batik quilt. From the start I had problems, thread breakage, skipping stitches, frustration. After doing all I could think of, clean machine, change needles, rethreaded,  rewind bobbin; I ordered new thread when problems continued, set me back a week, new thread came, started over, same issues– oh crap– this means in for service….Ugh! Managed to get it to shop Friday morning, { Shout out– The Petoskey Sewing Center and Ford are great! If you are around be sure to stop by & check out all they have to offer) anyhow, dropped it off about 11 am Friday, Ford said he would be able to get to it that day, try to have it ready for me by Monday. About 5:45 Friday evening my phone rings & it’s the sewing center….oh no! First thought, going to need parts, going to take weeks….answered the phone, and hear….it’s all done, sewing like new! YEA!     Picked it up Saturday morning, came home set it up & had that quilt finished in a couple hours . Even  managed to go for a motorcycle ride with hubby , First 70* day,  great day all around. Nice to have a great day. Since I had to go back to work on Sunday.

I’ve been participating in a couple swaps this year, had stopped that for 3-4 years. Through the quilt board forum. One I’m doing is a project of the month. That one has been really fun, you just get one person to make something for, each month is a different project. We’ve done coasters ( I made paper pieced teacup coasters) , fabric baskets and this month an apron. I really look forward to the announcement of what our next project will be each month! 🙂 I’ve also been doing a monthly ” secret pal” where we receive a ( pal) name address & answers to a questionaire then put together a surprise package to send them. That one is really fun too.  I had been so wrapped up in work & personal ‘stuff’ that I had kind of stopped participating in the things I love to do. Fell into the routine of work, home, work, home – go to the store when the cupboards are bare. ( in a rut) this year is off to a much better  start, happy at work, happy at home,  enjoying being active  again.  Reunited with quilts friends, getting ” out there”.

Now that I’ve ( found) my place again I will try to share on a more regular basis, the next post will have some pictures.

I hope all is well in your world.

Time Flies!

January flew by in a blink!

I did manage to accomplish things, sorted, straightened & decluttered in the sewing room. There is still a lot to do but the fabric shelves are straightened, I can see what I have and so far I have used 7.75 yards of scraps and stash fabrics. It is good to use what I have.

I also ( shared) about 5 yards of fabrics — mostly fat quarters– and sent a friend 7 pounds of scraps. I have no idea how much fabric that is but it was sure nice to see that pile and bag go away. 🙂 .

I have quilted 4 customer quilts all ready this year, which is a good thing, since I do need to make the payments on that new longarm I bought. I didn’t do many quilts last year. Need to change that this year!  I also started going to sewing group again– getting back into the swing of things. having a work schedule that allows me to do these things is so much better for me.

I’ve finished the hand piecing on my grandmother’s flower garden table runner, still appliquing it to a background but it will be finished soon. I enjoyed making it and was moving right along then realized with Aunt Diane gone and mom in the care facility I have no one to give those things to  anymore. Now, I’m having trouble finishing it. But, I will.

I finished the top construction of an on-point applique quilt today, will put the borders on tomorrow. It is a test pattern for a designer with The Quilt Pattern Magazine — so, no peeking, or info, till it’s published..  It’s a good one!

After finishing the gfg table runner I went back to work on the Millefiore sew along project. Finished rosette #6 last week and am close to finishing #7 ( messed up a piece & had to take it apart a little while ago, decided it was time for a break.) 😆 . Here is the first 6 laid out.  It sure is busy!

Baby quilts are next to finish up– granddaughter’s shower is the    20 th. Think I’m going to make some flannel burp cloths too.

I have 4-5 quilt tops I need to get quilted and a {very late} repair job to get finished & returned on my stack of projects to get done. I’m trying to stay organized and getting things done, its a very slow process but I am making progress and (trudging along).

I really need to do some more rearranging in the sewing room, the table my machine is on is too high, hard on the shoulders and upper back when sewing, it’s just not a good set up. The space is still too cluttered though– I need to take the time to make it better, then I could spend more time in there. Even though I did a lot getting through the cotton fabric shelves the room is still quite                       {overwhelming} .  I tell myself as long as I am accomplishing something it’s going to be OK… But then I think I’m just avoiding what really needs to be done and I could accomplish so much more if I just got it done! I ( enable) my procrastination with justifications and excuses.

I ordered a new iPad, will be here this week…. Yea! Excited! Hopefully I will be able to do better with the blog, pictures and maybe finally manage to do tutorials and patterns. I’ve needed to take this step for quite a while. My tablet is just too limited.

So, my next post, news,  should be done with a new device and hopefully will have more accomplishments and pictures to share. Until next time– thanks for reading this and stopping by.

Goals for 2016

As 2015 draws to an end I am focusing on making 2016 a much better year. 2015 was a tough one and somewhere along the way I gave up, which just caused the downward spiral to pick up speed. Managing to get through the holidays ( even though they didn’t go smoothly) was a boost and a slap at the same time… Time to get my head back on straight and look forward. A new work schedule will certainly help– finally after 11 months I will be starting the new year with a set schedule. Now I can organize my time.

Which brings me to number one GOAL for the new year.

TIME MANAGEMENT!

I need to find balance and manage my time better. Take the necessary time to become better with the computer, social media tasks ( today is the first time I’ve been able to actually link to something- yea, step in the right direction) . work, family, sewing, quilting…. I have to find that balance.  Alot an hour in the morning for emails, socializing on the computer; an additional hour 3-4 days a week for blogging, networking, computer      * work*.

Get Organized!

I’ve started going through the * rubble* in my sewing room– already overwhelmed with UFO’s, projects everywhere. I’m going to sort, declutter, pass on and toss out.

Prioritize!

Boy, this is a hard one. I (want) to start with my oldest UFO & work my way forward…. But…. I have some obligations that need to come first. So, maybe two stacks, immediate and ( trudge along.

USE WHAT I HAVE!

I have a huge stash of scraps and yardage. Panels, themes, collections. Other than an occasional backing and thread I have no excuses to spend money on my quilting. I hope to put a huge dent in my stash over the next 6 months. I’m going to keep track of the amounts I use. Which brings me to the next goal–

KEEP GOOD RECORDS!

Put the journals and planners I have to use. Keep track of expenses, materials, time, tasks. I want to be able to look back at the end of the day, week, month, year and see how I’m doing, where I need to make adjustments, what I need to change. I have the tools– I need to use them.

Design

At least 4 new quilts. Learn to put together a good tutorial. Seek class/ teaching opportunities locally.

Enter 2 large quilt shows in 2016.

Join the piggy bank challenge and save for a trip to a large show.

Get pictures! Good pictures! Clean up those picture files!

OK, I might add to my list later but this is a good beginning I think– I sure look forward to a much more productive year. The procrastinating and overwhelmed mental health has taken its toll– time to jump in with both feet, with a smile and Get Things Done!

Happy New Year Every one!

I will be working tonight through to the new year– still working 6:30 pm until 7 am three nights a week; but at least now they are all in a row, so will have 3 1/2 days to accomplish other things.

Looking forward to a wonderful new year

Be Well!

participating in the 3rd annual piggy bank challenge

I am going to join the 3rd annual ‘Piggy Bank Challenge’ by saving all my change for the next year. my goal is to save enough for a trip to a large quilt show next year. wish me luck. 🙂

I’ve had some log in problems and different (issues) lately with my blog—spent over an hour writing a new post just to have it ‘Puff’ disappear when I tried to add a picture…so frustrating. Also, I do not know if I am still a (no-reply) blogger- I have tried numerous times to fix that- but I do not seem to have any followers/readers/ traffic so, maybe I am the only one seeing any of this…wish I knew.

going to (try) to add the button for the Piggy bank Challenge- see how that goes.
